It is almost half a year ago that the European Commission introduced its proposals for the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act and ever since the debate about how to regulate our digital world has been in full progress. Discussions are currently taking place on EU and Member States level. Still, the impact of this legislative proposal on the media sector in the EU remains to be seen.

Digital Services Act & Digital Markets Act – Impacts on the Media Sector

hosted by the Representation of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to the EU in cooperation with the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia.
In this event Prof. Dr. Mark D. Cole will present the study “Updating the Rules for Online Content Dissemination – Legislative Options of the European Union and the Digital Services Act Proposal” conducted by the Institute of European Media Law under authorship of Professor Cole, Christina Etteldorf and Dr. Carsten Ullrich on behalf of the Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia. During this conference, Professor Cole will present his work on the DSA and DMA proposals. Following the presentation of the study by Professor Cole, there will be a panel discussion in which representatives of the European Parliament and the European Commission as well as the chair of ERGA, Dr. Tobias Schmid, will discuss the legislative initiatives with a focus on the implications for the media sector against the background of the study.
