The workshop’s goal is to examine the specific challenges of promoting European works in on-demand audiovisual services in practice, in particular to
• define difficulties in designing promoting systems
• explore different models and their advantages and disadvantages
• examine how this works for different screens (TV, computer, tablets), different distribution platforms (cable, satellite, IPTV, DTT, pure Internet, application stores) and different kinds of services (VoD services, catch-up TV services, etc.)
• indicate the application problems
• bring to the fore common policy goals and challenges
• understand the importance of overarching international interests (WTO-GATS vs. UNESCO CCD)
• put this discussion in its economic context. Whereas the countries, whose legal frameworks we would discuss, are likely to have enacted these rules first of all in order to transpose Art. 13 AVMS Directive, the focus should not be limited to those measures and not be on what a “proper” transposition would look like but rather aim to explore what approaches are possible to achieve the goal of promotion. The workshop is organised by the European Audiovisual Observatory (EAI) and the Institute for Information Law (IViR) of the University of Amsterdam.Participation in this event is by invitation only.
