The European Commission’s proposals for a Digital Services Act (DSA) and a Digital Markets Act (DMA) are of huge significance and will have effects on a wide range of sectors. This is foremost the case for the media sector that plays a special role and has specific needs in the online environment which need to be taken into account in a horizontal legal framework applicable to intermediaries.
To address this issue the EMR is organising an online conference on 20 April 2021 (10.00-12.00 pm) with the support of the Association of Commercial Television in Europe (ACT) on
“The impact of the proposed DSA & DMA on commercial broadcasting”.
Keynotes by
Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market
Guillaume de Posch, ACT President
Fernanda Ferreira Dias, Director General, Portuguese Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition
The keynotes and speakers of the two panels from the European Parliament, academia and the media will deal with the question of how elements of the DSA and DMA will show effects for the broadcasting sector as well as which aspects needed for a consistent regulation of the online environment are still to be adjusted in the proposals.
In this event, Prof. Dr. Mark D. Cole, Director for Academic Affairs of the EMR, will introduce into the discussions briefly the results of his Issue Paper on the topic of the conference.
